Discussion Agendas: Living With Yourself episode 1 on Netflix

1. Can you share a brief summary of what happened in the first episode?

2. What was your initial impression of the main character, Miles Elliot, and how did it change by the end of the episode?

3. Considering the main character's drastic transformation, what does being the 'best version' of oneself mean to you, and would you embrace a chance to become this 'better' version?

4. What might be the reasons behind Tom Brady's character visiting the spa six times, and what does this indicate about the show's perspective on self-improvement and the concept of the 'best' version of oneself?

Tom Brady is a famous American football quarterback known for his many victories and considered one of the greatest athletes in his sport. In 'Living with Yourself', he makes a cameo appearance where his character has visited a spa meant to enhance one's self, six times.

5. The clone's calmness contrasts with the original Miles' agitation. Does this imply the clone is an improved Miles with more positive attributes, or that he might have already knew he was the clone? Could his tranquil behavior be due to programming, the absence of emotional baggage, a new perspective on life, or other factors?

When they meet at home, the original Miles is shocked and confused, while the clone is composed and accommodating. This contrast is highlighted when the clone calmly lets Miles drive to the spa and during their memory verification conversation. At the spa, despite learning he's a copy, the clone remains unflustered and inquires without distress. This consistency in the clone's demeanor before and after discovering his identity as a clone suggests his tranquil nature could be due to a design feature, the lack of emotional history, or a completely new perspective shaped by the cloning process.

6. Imagine a better version of you lives your life alongside you. How might this coexistence impact your future? Would the changes be entirely positive, or are there potential negative outcomes? What are the potential risks and benefits, considering the ethical implications depicted in the episode?

7. Who should continue the relationship with Mile's wife, Kate —the original or the clone— and when should they tell her about the cloning? Should they disclose the situation to friends, family, or colleagues?

8. If the original is eliminated in the process of creating their 'better' version,  is the life that follows still the original's, or does it belong to a new, separate entity with just a shared appearance?

9. If you were in Miles' shoes, would you report the spa's cloning operation to the media or authorities?

One intriguing perspective on Reddit suggests "The government could issue the other Miles a new identity/SS card/birth certificate and they could live out their lives like bff twins after hopefully getting a hefty settlement too."

10. Reflecting on a time you sought to change something about yourself, what was it, and how did you approach it?
